The Dual DMS 251 came in two different versions. An elliptical version which was named DMS 251E and a spherical version named 251S. Both Dual 251 versions had an aluminium cantilever and a built in stylus guard.
Dual DMS 251 was produced by Audio Technica and compatible with AT-3600 and AT-91. Audio Technica made many OEM versions for different brands.
Even though different versions of this cartridge had an inexpensive price tag and originally only was provided with bonded spherical and elliptical needles, the cartridge body has gained a very high reputation beyond this price tag due to it’s neutral and honest reproduction. Therefore today you are also able to buy high-end Shibata needles for this cartridge.
